mental rehearsal is the best way to practice, its a proven fact. I your mind you dont make mistakes, every tree i look at i have got it down and away by the time i have passed it in my mind. Maybe its a bit sad but hey thats what i do. Be the tree, sounds mystical but thats what i do. tie a bit of rope around your waist and tie it off, move it about yout body, changing the position, the angle, the length, double it up and pull it and see how it all reacts, comes into its own on leaning trees. If you can fell sycamore you can fell anything. I think the worst leaners are very tall narrow trees, there isnt usually room for a wedge and a saw at the same time, can be very tricky.

ebay mate. heres a wee clip from today, this was the biggest sitka of them all. We had exhausted the wedges so i just gave it a little nibble from the front, and over she went. Robert was there to watch my back.

Why nibble from the front and risk pinching the saw? Could you not have come in from the back again and nibbled the hinge down abit that way?

 

Or is there some forester trick ive missed?

 

that one is top secret magnum:001_tt2:, wasnt risking the hinge mate, that was a big old tree, 100feet plus with a back lean.

 

The big tree did go thump though:thumbup:
