Hi

Has anyone else had issues with faulty MK2 550s? One on the bench this week, failed big end bearing, which killed the cylinder. 269 hours run time on coppicing, so not thrashed. E5/XP oil. 21/2 years old, Husqvarna didn't want to know. I'm getting a little fed up of rebuilding early failed Huskys!!

Any thoughts?

Coppicing often means revving flat out near max revs rather than at around 9,000 as normal. What sort of oil was it running and was it fresh mix.

I must confess I have not seen many big end bearings, plenty of main bearings though, these saws really suffer with the flywheel side seal leaking like a hole in a bucket, could this have been a factor in this failure?

had a main bearing go on mine when i purchased it from new after 2 weeks of commercial forestry felling had it repaired under warranty from my local husky dealer. i pulled the saw out of commercial forestry work and just used it as my firewood saw its been fine since . im not sure if there was a batch issue forbearing issue from factory ? but iv seen reports of a few failures on these

No problems ever with my Spud ported 346 . They don't make em like they used to 🙂

I understand the reasoning for the composite bearing cage, and Husqvarna are not the only manufacturer to use them, however it has to be said the metal cage bearings  seem to out last them,  dry rarely saw failed bearing cages on 357 or 346, there has been numerous material changes to the cage, to there is now a new supplier of the bearing rather than SEM, same as the 585/592.

Probably down to the strato technology using less fuel so less oil that gives the 346 & 357 bearings and easier ride.

Love my 346 and 357...the latter breaks your arm even with the decomp valve in...not very standard and the compression is a bit saucy👍
