My thoughts are with his family & friends it not nice losing anyone as we all know,RIP

The Utility industry at present is cutting the expenditure & in my experience they are expecting the same amount of work in less time which at times means we have to cut corners so accidents are certain to happen.

Thats my opinion.

Folks,

From what I understand speaking to contacts is they had a permit to section the Poplar but it was clear felled. A winch was put onto the Pop but it got hung-up in a Larch. A winch was then put in the Larch! I presume the method was then to fell the Larch and the hung up Pop and have them both down in one.

The Larch failed near or above the winch point and hit this poor chap!

Like many other folks have said it’s a stark reminder of the dangers we all face on a day to day basis.

Thoughts go out to his friends & family!

Lets hope we all get home safe to see our loved ones!

I worked with this guy for a about a year and a half before moving to NZ. I always found him extremely safety concious (especially around the power lines) and also a great guy to boot. Just happened to be googling for his name and up popped the info about his death. Such a shame.

I was told the guy didn't have his helmet on. He was within two tree lengths of a tree being felled, the felled tree knocked a top out of a larch and hit him. The guys had to hold his head together with their hands. ALWAYS WEAR YOUR HELMET ON SITE!!! It is down to every member of the team to make sure every person is safe at all times. Safety comes first.

This is another tragedy.

We all try to find some reason the accident happened and apportion blame, it a way of copping with the fear of the risks we face. If we can say the person concerned acted in a foolish manner we can convince our selves it wont happen to us, as we would never do that.

Its the same when we hear about kids that carry out crimes, we look to see where the parents went wrong, so we can reassure our selves that our kids wont do the same as we are good parents. (well I do)
