Where to get logs

This might be a better step up if you're used to buying in small bags from supermarket etc.  Keep an eye out for 'logs for sale' signs nearby or speak to friends/neighbours who have fires, or a quick Google search

If you can buy bulk bag or loose loads by the m3 from a proper log merchant it'll be much better stuff and cheaper than supermarkets, and for now easier than processing/drying your own.

Not sustainable and may as well put the heating on as it would be cheaper.

still happy to buy some like this but not to the amount we would need.

It’s been fine with what we have. But a bigger log burner burning for longer just isn’t sustainable.

Sorry , I don't understand . What is not sustainable ?

The cost I presume, if I bought my logs from the local log man it would cost me over £1500 a year, cheaper to use gas, cheaper still to use a heat pump if I had an EV.

Buying in solid fuel is a bit of a misconception that it will be significantly cheaper than gas. It is cheaper but you won't be saving thousands. With the rise in log burner installs the fuel costs have gone up, supply and demand.. but you have to consider each case what the most effective heating system is. We wouldn't have a log burner as much if we had mains gas for example (well, we would but it wouldn't be our main heating).

Buying a 'load' - tipper truck - at a time is probably the most cost effective

If you a relatively rural, just talk to local farmers or landowners.  After the recent winds, most of them will have trees or branches down than need clearing up.  Not everyone has vehicles and equipment, but as spring and summer progresses, you can get a 4x4 further afield.
