Tree fallen over and uprooted due to storm

I believe if the tree dies naturally you still have a duty to replant, so I'd definitely check with the council.

We have had this discussion before, is cutting up a fallen tree works to a TPO tree or not? It's not dead yet, probably still carry on growing but the amenity value is clearly affected.

In practical terms it needs moving off the driveway obviously.

As far as I can tell in the video it isn't blocking the drive? So could be left in place for a week or 2 till the tree officer replies... just in case...

Immediately I'd be tempted to take off the couple of m nearest the house just to give you access round the front - a bow saw (DIY warehouse £10 kind of quality if you haven't got one) or a hand saw should get through that (and with all the usual warnings to know what you are doing and anything that is supporting the rest of the tree to assess where the tree will fall, likewise anything you cut off be aware of the potential for things falling on you).

Getting rid of the tree... tip is an option. If you are getting someone in to do it be aware they might be busy the next couple of weeks with other windblown trees, they might give you a price to also remove the tree. Firewood, despite what you might think it will never pay for someone to cut it up but you might reduce the cost a little selling it cut up locally.. tree surgeon who cuts it up will be able to advice how much is there... price it yourself depends how quick you want it gone (Free: Next day it's gone, £20 a car boot full might take a couple of weeks, offer to deliver all in one go saves hassle but larger loads gives less in total)

Or if you are confident.. and with suitable protective equipment (helmet, gloves, chain resistant trousers, safety boots, ear defenders if using petrol machines) you could deal with it yourself - the cost of the equipment though might be more than getting a professional in (Use bow saw, takes longer, don't need the safety trousers and helmet, cut to 1m lengths - car boot width - it will still go as firewood to someone)

head to twitter to express your disgust that asylum seekers have caused your tree to get blown over, then phone your local council and mp, do an interview with the local news crew to demand that the government does something about the wind that blew your tree over nearly killing you in your bed, campaign for the government to make high winds illegal.

if youre a labour supporter, blame the tories for not building the tree roots enough.

if youre a tory, blame labour for letting high winds blow your tree over by raising taxes.

or if youre a normal person and not a jobless sponge, skip the above, knock out a quick email to your local planning with a photo of the tree then pay someone to cut it up and remove it all for firewood.

Be a shame to take it all to the tip. The branchy stuff, yes, but the trunk is decent firewood. If I were local, I'd help you chop it up for the wood - can't be the only one who would offer. I'd not clear all the brash for you, though

Its good fire wood . You could cut off the brash and get someone to chip it or , take it to the tip . Don't take the meaty trunk . Keep it for yourself if you want fire wood ( needs to season and spits a bit if its cherry as has been suggested but ok in a stove ) . If you don't want it as fire wood just leave it in managble sections with a notice saying fillyer boots and it will be taken by the " log fairies " within a day .
