Could anyone identify this wood?

Hi, sorry to turn up just to ask for help, but has anyone any idea what this wood is? It's about 30cm diameter, pale wood. Growth rings are fairly wide set and I can mark the wood with a fingernail but it's not really soft. Thankyou in advance for any thoughts!

A prunus species, the smell of the sawdust would be the giveaway.

No sap wood or heart wood. 

Spruce.

I can't find any pictures of spruce logs with the horizontal bands in the bark, but would happily be corrected as I can't claim expertise here! I think the picture might be misleading; I took some sandpaper to the end face and there is a change in the wood about 50mm or so inwards from the bark. The growth rings in the outer part are closer together and the wood is darker.

I just found this:Alamy stock photo of cherry wood and it does look very similar, apart from the change in thickness of the growth rings.
