Notch Rope Runner Vertec

Recommended Posts

Well I've gone and got myself one. I can't go and sell them if I don't know how they work.  Most probably just like the original, but at least I'll know.  Off out on Saturday to give it a go20241113_220631.thumb.jpg.fcb81e8e463c9262800e354d2098e15f.jpg

It didn't like the DMM carabiners( it didn't lock up thiugh). I've put a DMM director swivel on mine which helps. A mate of mine has used a Rock Exotica Rocko with his and has no problems at all

Yo Rich, are you asking about swivels in general, or specifically in this application, on the Rope Runner?

I flipping LOVE using a swivel at the masterpoint in our rope rescue setup, joining a Clutch or an ID to our bear paw or BFK at the anchors, they are a huge help in getting everything set out smoothly. Well worth the money if you're stuck with a few spare quid.

On my climbing harness though, I only have a cheapo Zigzag with no built-in swivel, but I've got around this by attaching it to the bridge ring with a short sling, either doubled or quadrupled over, which also puts it at a more ergonomic position. It doesn't give infinite rotations through 360° like a bought swivel would, but it definitely takes the brunt of it. Decent budget alternative.

I used to use a swivel in my VT and removed it quicker than it took to fit it to my bridge.  They are not for me as the exacerbated a small problem of the ropes twisting into a bigger problem.

I have always kept away from them since.  I have been on Roperunners now since the first editions.

I just wondered how it would be integrated into the new Notch RR.

Does it still cause horrendous twisting of the rope?

You found it caused twisting? I'd have thought that was the one single problem they've been designed to solve!

Are you sure you didn't have it on upside down, back to front, or inside out?

No definitely not inside out.

Running a VT makes the rope twist as it goes through the braids.  You can alleviate it a bit by doing the braids over-under, under- over but there will still be some twist.

I did stick a swivel on my bridge thinking it would help the last bit of twist but it made it 10 times worse so I took it off and sold it.

I have seen people integrate a swivel into the BDB, Rope wrench,  roperunners and other SRT devices.

I just wanted to see a picture of the new RRV with a swivel.
