You seriously think I’m gonna sit and waste my time answering any of the supposed questions in that load of left wing lies and shite Mark. Utterly pointless in the first instance and most of it is utter drivel in the second.
In your eyes all those people who voted for Reform in Northumberland are wrong and you are right.
Maybe you are but maybe they are too🤷‍♂️time will tell, one things for sure Mark the current two party cosy system is not benefiting those people or else a formerly staunch labour heartland would not have voted Reform.

Pft...

Blyth voted Tory not so long ago.

It doesn't surprise me that you're unwilling to grab the bull by the arse and stare the facts in the face.

As you say, time will tell.

Is it cheaper to generate power from renewable sources or fossil fuels in the UK: Current day?

Cost Comparison: Renewable vs Fossil Fuel Power Generation in the UK (2025)

Current Cost Landscape

  • In 2025, generating electricity from renewable sources such as wind and solar is significantly cheaper than generating it from fossil fuels, particularly natural gas, in the UK24.

  • According to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), the cost of generating electricity from gas is projected to be £114/MWh in 2025. In contrast, offshore and onshore wind are expected to cost £44/MWh, and large-scale solar £41/MWh2.

  • This means renewables are predicted to be about 61% cheaper than gas-fired generation this year2.

Trends and System Costs

  • The cost advantage of renewables is expected to widen in the coming years. By 2030, gas generation could cost £139/MWh, while offshore wind may fall to £39/MWh and solar to £37/MWh2.

  • Studies considering the total system cost-including backup and grid investments-find that a renewables-dominated power system is likely to have a lower cost per unit of electricity than the current average wholesale market price. For reference, the average price in Britain’s wholesale electricity market in 2023 was £127/MWh, while a future decarbonised system is expected to produce electricity at £55–£73/MWh4.

  • Even when accounting for the additional investment required in grid infrastructure, renewables remain cost-competitive. One estimate puts the extra cost for grid upgrades at just £4/MWh by 20504.

Market Share and Energy Mix

  • Renewables now make up 41% of the UK’s electricity mix, with fossil fuels down to 27.2% as of April 20251.

  • The shift to renewables is not only driven by environmental targets but is also strongly supported by economic factors, given the falling costs of wind and solar compared to volatile and rising fossil fuel prices124.

Summary Table: Generation Costs in the UK (2025)

Generation Type Cost (£/MWh, 2025)
Gas 114
Offshore Wind 44
Onshore Wind 44
Large-scale Solar 41

Source: DESNZ projections2

Conclusion

As of 2025, it is clearly cheaper to generate power from renewable sources than from fossil fuels in the UK. Renewables, especially wind and solar, offer substantial cost savings over gas-fired generation, and this cost gap is expected to increase further in the coming years24.

😂😂😂😂 Windfall tax 🤷‍♂️or did you forget ?

The word expected was mentioned a lot there Mark.
You are in fantasy land in regards renewables, go to Blyth and tell me where the monopiles running out of there are made and shipped from, tell me where the boats are from or the heavy lift barges are flagged at and what nationalities crew them. While you are at it who actually owns the wind farns  and  benefits from it. I have gone on about this for years Mark only because I’ve seen it first hand with my own eyes not just read about it.

😂😂 I know what I see Mark. Not just what I read. People are ****************ing sick of Labour and the Tories.

Why the hell would I get into a question question question scenario as we both know we are not gonna agree. I believe in different things to you, mind you you talk about socialism yet admit to running ltd company for tax reasons so there’s a capitalist hidden there somewhere. You should be careful talking about money with SP hovering around calculating people’s earnings and tax liabilities.

😂😂 That’s your understanding of it eh “ my mates work on offshore turbines” cool ask them where they are made who installed them and who owns the wind farm 👍👍

I’m at work Mark and far from angry, maybe the anger is yours as Northumberland’s voting seems to be upsetting you somewhat.
Talking of renewables Mark can you point me to a 4x4 pick up that will tow 3500KG and run on electricity, ask your mates if it helps.

Ha!

I couldn't give hoot who people vote for, and there is zero anger here.

I can quite happily look after my Clan, irrespective of those "in charge".

I do think that believing everything that billionaires tell you might be disingenuous.
