Quit while you're behind.

Think you'll find I'm ahead of the curve.

You've not exactly helped yourself and neither has sp in this particularly poorly thought out argument

Already have, you're the one poorly trying to convince everyone it's some modern phenomenon to make politicians cute and cuddly.

You're the one who is buying what they're selling.

the US bailed out their banks too, maybe they needed someone like you as leader

No actually; the US allowed one of the largest investment banks to collapse.  Lehman Brothers.

I think Keir Starmer this week more or less admitted he is not even trying to run the country.

He was in a business in St Helens on Thursday and instead of giving a clear message about the great things he thinks the government are doing to fix this country’s problems, he made it clear the main thing he is pre-occupied with is the threat from Nigel Farage.

For me this might be the worst thing our new government have done yet, as it shows where their priorities lie.  Even the left wing press were scornful.  I find it incredible that the officials who approved the speech didn’t realise the subtext of what it said.

It wasn't an argument, it was an observation.

In use, first names: Boris, Rishi (In fact 'Dishi Rishi'), The Donald, Surnames: Starmer, Biden, Reeves... easily observed in the threads in this forum. Fact is first name use makes them more personable and approachable despite the person behind the name. You might have wondered why shop staff with name tags often only have their first name? makes them 'human' and the customers are more likely to react favourably instead of aggressive. Well known psychological thing. Same with politicians, the ones you want to make cuddly, Boris, Rishi, Donald, you use first names, the ones you want to demonise, Starmer, Biden, Blair, is last name use... as I said you can observe this on this forum - even if you didn't know the psychology behind it you are still following it.

Here is a thing to try next time you are out quoting, "Hi I am Gareth, you phoned me about the tree", and "Hi I am Mr Marshal, you phoned me about the tree" (sorry, having to fill in the blanks for 'M' - not important).. and see which conversation is more chatty and leads you optimism about a quote being accepted.

There you go, simple psychology for the night that might lead to better prospects when out quoting.

--Edit--

and if you want to take that further, there are some name that are more approachable than others, some more disagreeable than others if you want to go as far as change you name for the sake of a few ££ in a quote

Waffle waffle 6th form debating club.

When I speak with a customer they atleast know what I do for a living, regardless of how I introduce myself, be that first name, surname or company.

Simple psychology is I'm not ashamed of what I do for a living!.

And your argument about using first Vs surname in my derision of Tony Blair or even Adolf Hitler is absolute BS.

Uttering either is enough!.
