Using a sledgehammer to crack an egg is never the best idea Mick

That is undoubtedly happening in some cases but not in the majority I know including myself. The way they have done it hits everyone regardless if your need is valid. In fact those who stick with them out of necessity will get hammered the most, not exactly a recipe for economic growth.

Hardly a sledgehammer! From now on if you want your VAT back and the purchase price put on your business you’ll have to buy a perfectly adequate king cab.

I have just ordered one in fact, coming in August.
I would have liked a double cab, but I understand the rationale.

 It seems fair tbh.

“perfectly adequate king cab”

Maybe to you Mick, not to a lot of people I’d imagine especially if you need to take more than one passenger. Out if interest what king cab you gone for ?

Ford Ranger Wildtrak in blue.
My 4th Ranger in a row.
Before that a Navarra, two Hilux and the first pick up was a Ford P100

Ironically the only photo is of a DCPU!IMG_1736.jpeg.8ea6326a42c8cbb4ad5ac99c00bfd28a.jpeg

You can take at least one more passenger in a king cab, two at a pinch.
Not in comfort, and shorter distances are better. But it’s doable if needed.

King cab Wildtrack ?
Mick I’m not much different ie I’m on 2nd Ranger and done the Navara and a 2 seater hilux prior to that.
I can understand the angst at people taking the piss but many have a totally justified reason for owning them. The convenience factor will be missed ie the ability to get out in shite weather up here or pick up kids etc if I’m passing on way home rather than doubling back with a car. It just seem like yet another hit on the working man. What’s hard to fathom is the support it has on here from people who I’d presume are predominantly self employed. Let’s face it they get enough revenue off anyone driving them with the sub 30mpg figure for starters. Let’s see if they come after all of them next eh including king cabs.

I wasn’t even aware they did a king cab wildtrack in 3.0

A 3.0 DC Wildtrack was on the cards in June but no chance now. £10k hit if I did 🤷‍♂️

I wouldn’t say it’s support, more a recognition that it’s a reasonable measure.
Imagine being a young mum dropping the kids off at school in your Clio that you husband (let’s say he’s an office worker) has bought with his already taxed income (including VAT)
Behind you is Mrs Jones, in an all singing dancing Hilux invincible with her 2 kids in the back.
Her husband had written off the VAT and reduced his tax bill by buying it, plus the fuel is a tax write off

Seem fair?

It’s a 2.0 bi turbo.
They are in France where the DC is rare.
For obvious reasons.

Surely people can just work a bit harder to afford to be able to tax their truck? The only reason I see where you need a double cab is to carry workers, if that is the case they should be factored into the cost of a job.

I'd agree with that, 3 of you in the cab, the tax increases would add something like £5 to £10 onto their day rate (220 day or 150 day working year), which is nothing in the grand scheme of things. The tax paid there would of course be offset against tax on company profits.

Fag packet sums: £200 day hire for a double cab - something like that, and compared purchase cost, maintenance, tax, insurance, depreciation and so on. To justify owning a double cab you'd need something like 80 days use a year, 6 days a month -business use with 3+ employees in it-, else it is cheaper just to hire one in as and when - and they clean it for you!

Most of them I see are very clean, never been off road, vanity vans, or single occupant 'boss mans' vans as a perk.
