Echo CS2511TES chattering/bouncing problem

I had a clutch explode on a Husqvarna 357 after months of cutting and zero maintenance . It ruined the clutch side cover . I bought it second hand to use in the woods till I could afford a new saw . I think it had been used previously by one of those " chain brake on at all times " merchants as the drum wall was paper thin .

Evening Mick, I'm so glad that I can be the one to enlighten you.

 

This type of situation requires a certain level of special.

 

I was field-stripping a saw that wouldn't oil. Suitably a 2511.

 

Traced the issue back to a worn worm drive,  which required removing the clutch to diagnose.

 

To check that if I'd rectified the issue, i span the clutch back on and hand tightened it best I could.

 

Didn't bother putting the side cover back on. I wanted to see if the oil was coming out of the oil hole in the clutch side.

 

Started the saw up and revved it, with the clutch pointing upwards. The clutch promptly span itself back off and into the air. Instinctively i tried to catch the spinning clutch mid-air and burnt/sliced hell out of my palm/fingers. When i dropped it the sod span off over a car park and into oblivion.

 

I put the outboard clutches back on differently these days.

For what advantage? Near enough the same as the original TESC kit.

 

@Joe Newtonr are not clutches a left hand thread so if anything they will tighten when reved or loaded?! It'll come off you run without a bar and kill the engine after revving to stop it or shut the throttle too quick from full speed - atleast if it was only hand tight, once its been cutting it should be tight as it'll get.

If you snap the brake on it nips them up .

What would you run a carving bar for?

You’re not carving.

 

Dont think it will be any different to the standard TESC. Cuts better you say? Its semi chisel, 1/4" pitch so more cutters in the wood and less efficient than a 3/8" full chisel. More cutters to be sharpened too.

 

Carving bar is lighter. Narrow nose is useful for topping cuts and delicate pruning.

Tho the standard bar on my mates MS151T is near enough the same size/shape as the carving bar anyway. The standard TES bar has a bigger nose.

My carving bar is showing near zero wear after quite a lot of use, so I cant see a situation where the standard bar would be an advantage.

I was thinking that a worn drum might 'allow' the clutch to explode. The clutches ive had in that have cracked have been contained by the drum so no big drama.

Sounds nasty Mr Newton, your reactions must be just too fast! When your old like me you would just watch it spin off and disappear. Although I wont go into that as the last time I mentioned it I got told off. :)

 

As Mr Bolam said the stihl bar and chain setup is really popular on the 2511. When I get a chance we will start selling the saw with that setup. Especially since the price of a new echo 1/4" bar is around the £70 mark.
