Does putting an arb back on a tipper count as a modification for insurance?

Hi there. I'm looking to buy a tipper but there's very little online with an arb suitable back. My mate's a welder and I'm crafty enough myself so happy to get one made up, but am wondering if that counts as a modification for insurance purposes? Looking for insurance has been a nightmare already, so hopefully it doesn't count.

 

Any insight would be appreciated!

Think you've answered your own question, yes it's a modification but best speaking to a more arb friendly insurance company than your average LV style company.

 

You're average insurance won't even cover gear in the van, plus it's commercial so best being covered than barely covering the basics.

yes, sadly it does

i just went all through this with my defender tipper

 

went with NFU Mutual in the end, were about £100 cheaper but good service and they look after you 

 

the amount of insurance people i spoke to that had no idea what a tipper was, frightening 😅

Thanks for the replies. Disheartening as I'm in London and been struggling to find quotes at all before even considering the modification angle. Back to the drawing board...

Well, I'm assuming London and within the M25, it means new euro 6 unless it's petrol.

 

Smaller might be easier, something like a ford connect van type of thing and a trailer, enough to be under the congestion charging?.

Yeah, it has to be euro 6 because ULEZ charges are not worth it. And I definitely want an actual tipper van.

Does this means pretty much every arb truck is considered modified then?

There has to be a way, how else is everyone else doing it?!! Can't move for tree surgeons round here, surely buying a truck and doing your own thing should be possible!

If you modify it yourself it’ll need checking by a suitably qualified workshop to sign off the build before some companies will quote. Found this when I did my previous truck body. 
Only NFU specified this but I’m sure others will as well

I don’t think you need to tell them about that.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. To start of I was probably gonna put a little metal frame on and put some plywood on the sides. Could you argue that's just something your transporting?
