Pallet wood ID

Was given this pallet and tried burning a bit and it was ferocious! When I cut it there was a strong smell like pitch pine but it didn’t look treated. The guy said it was from Turkey and having browsed the net a little I wondered if it was red pine. Is there a way of getting that information from the stamp? I know HT means heat treated. I think it has left the inside of my fire lined with black soot in places so I don’t dare burn it again. Goes like Billy O in my camping stove but I’m cautious it might give off noxious fumes.

Most one use pallets are hemlock as it's cheap.

The compressed wood fibers in the spacer block will contain a type of glue . Could be this that burns fierce .

Heat treated - "Kiln Dried", possibly softwood (not sure what kind), small volume to surface area, is going to burn quickly.

 

I'd use it as kindling, easy to split into small pieces

I’d never burn compressed spacer blocks. The wood doesn’t look treated but burns unnaturally hot! It did leave black soot type

residue in the fire chamber so I’m inclined to use it outdoors only

I'll  burn them happily in our closed inset burner where I can give them maximum airways and close off primary. No smell in the house but stinks like feck outside. - I don't go out for ½ an hour and if neighbours ask,  it wasn't me! 😇

Other pallet wood I've  come across that burns berserk is eucalyptus from imported pallets - crazy stuff for flaring up

its illegal to burn palletwood. Check on DEFRA guidelines. Dont shoot the messenger.

Think the term I remember is halogenic or treated timbers.

 

To be honest HT pallets are probably legal as it's just kiln dried to kill any bugs.
