Cleaning Bluetooth Earbuds

I've got Bluetooth earbuds that are great, or were great, until the gunk built up in them. Now I barely get volume in the left which is apparently due to the common issue of ear gunk filling the speaker holes. They recommend brushing with a soft brush which I tried and very slight improvement. Someone suggested hot glue, let it set and peel off but not sure if it might risk damage.

Can anyone suggest a way to clean them?

Well, this has to be one of the more "out there" threads!

Thinking laterally from the hot glue idea - how about hair removal wax strips? You know, like the ladies use, (and some metrosexual men apparently).

Wonder if they'd get right into the little holes?

A younger me, keen to impress a new love, offered to help her with the wax strips, thought it'd be all romantic and bonding. It was more difficult than I anticipated and I made a right arse of it. At the point I had strips stuck to me, the floor and her mother's dog, she declared these things aren't cheap and it was decided she'd do it herself in future.

I'm not an expert practitioner, as you obviously are, but I imagined the wax to be quite soft. So you could press it and squeeze into the holes slightly. It must be sticky at least, actually you testified to that already!

Probably best to keep this as a last resort idea. In case it pushes the ear wax further in.

Think Will's idea sounds a bit less invasive, keep the wax strips on the subs bench for now. The method Les suggested would be preferable for obvious reasons but I've more chance of training a colony of ants to dig it out for me!
