Found out half hour ago that Thomas Hingley (Inspiral Carpets) is putting on a free gig tonight at a pub just over the border in Cheshire, quick shower and taxi booked for 8:45. Sounds like a blast!

Where’s that Eggs? I’m in France so not relevant but interested to know where gigs are happening.

Prince of Wales Mongleton, I thought he was about my age. Didn’t  realise he’s got 7-8 years on me.

So this is how it feels to be lonely?

This is how feels to be small, this is how it is when your world means nothing at all.

He rocked it last night.

Not sure what your bag is mate, this is a good venue if rock music is your scene, our middle kid goes most weeks. It’s not a massive hike from your place but you will need a driver if you want a beer or two, or you can dive on the train to Kidsgrove and taxi it for the last 2-3 miles.

Strange fact about that tune Eggs.

I bought it on cassette single when it came out, and the lyrics went -

‘There’s a funeral in the town,

Some guy from the top estate.

Seems they found him under a train,

And yet he had it all on a plate.’

It was quickly withdrawn, and the lyrics changed to -

‘Black car drives through the town,

Some guy from the top estate.

Left a note for a local girl,

And yet he had it all on a plate.’

The release coincided with the tragic murder of Jamie Bulger, so the lyrics were quickly changed out of respect to his family.

They  are the lyrics on spotify, I had to look it up as I hadn't heard it, far too modern for me.

I'm trying to remember an earlier song about a bloke the singer envied until the last verse where it seems the guy topped himself. Got it, Richard Cory-Simon&Garfunkel, maybe I'll get to sleep now

This one quoted above seems to have a similar theme to "ode to billie Joe in that the mother is sad about something.
