Wondering how/if I can stain my floor

Here's a photo of my floor, not sure what kind of wood this is but I like the color better when I've mopped it and it's wet/darker. Which is how I've took the photo.

Brought a thought to my mind as maybe I could stain it but looking for some advice on prep and what products to use.

Also have a handrail going down the stairs.

Looks a bit like Oak to me. If it has been sealed before, any attempt to stain it will only darken the areas where the seal has worn through - doorways and in front of sofas etc.

If the floor has a reasonable thickness of veneer, you could sand it off or just try a slight stain on an area that doesn't show too much.

You may get away with a good dose of white spirit, steel wool and elbow grease and then use a stain/oil mix as previously mentioned when dry.

Looks like solid or decent engineered so you've at least 4mm to play with.

It needs sanding period.

Depends on what look you want.

If you want a older style warm look with good grain showing use a hard wax oil like OSMO.

2 thin coats .

Or for more modern pale look use BONA Mega Extra MATT or traffic hd RAW.

Sanding wise, prob need 40,60,80 and finish on 100 or 120.
