Winch Loler test Cumbria

 Does anyone know where in Cumbria/North Lancs I can get my hand and petrol winches Loler tested? New contract requirement...

Winches are not subject to loler regulations when used for winching stuff about/assisted fells.
however they are if your planning to lift or lower with it.

As will said no local requirement, but if some one is asking for it to be loler certified I don't see why not,, Scott would be a good shout or try Dave blakey either could know sone one,,

There is no requirement to LOLER your winches if they aren’t used for lifting, I  can’t see why they are asking for this. 
If it’s going to gain you a decent contract then I would obviously have it done as it shouldn’t cost the earth.
You will just have to explain the situation to the LOLER examiner or state that you use the winches as hoists occasionally, supply winch receipts and any service records you have for inspection.

I’m not familiar with any LOLER examiners  near you, Richard Almond possibly, a web search should supply a list of local contacts.

Put the H&S man right on the situation as he clearly hasn’t got a clue.

In my mind (as a loler tester) by testing the winch I would then expect/hope to see slings etc to go with it rated to a similar swl, but as just a winch you can use any pill line you see fit as long as it is fit for purpose!

I think the H&S guy has got their wires crossed or just unclear on the regs.

I would think they are expecting the Op to produce winch service records rather than LOLER records.

A documented annual inspection of winching equipment by a competent person makes good sense, doing it under L.O.L.E.R. can't work as too much of the kit is not supplied by the manufacturers as suitable for lifting.

We all know ever company is covering there ass if something goes wrong that includes you using winch, if you have a piece of paper from someone saying it's been tested you have covered yourself if that's what they want.
