Thank you Pleasant for your erudite reply. I am of course wiser but in somewhat of a quandary as there were multiple suggestions as which oil to use apart from yours.

Where does it say this tool needs a  special grade of makita chain oil.?

 

 

 

Im not disputing a more runny oil may be better suited but can't find any makita reference to it?

Stere, not sure that there is a ref in the literature. But both the oil supplied with the mini Stihl and Makita are very low viscosity

Ok I see.

 

In the US they sell different vicousity grades for summer or winter etc

 

Hopefully there is some  suitable oil about in the UK that isn't £56 a litre.

Standard oil is CST 100 from memory, you've already had a few suggestions such as Stihl.

 

The choice as they say is yours but either way you'll be paying a premium for thin oil with anti fling additive

Gareth M, the Stihl chainsaw oil is to viscous and does not oil the chain (I have tried it) which is why a thinner oil is required and 100ml is supplied with the saw. However, the price is exorbitant

For a little saw like this, how much oil are you expecting to use?

3/4s to 4/5ths of an oil tank per full fuel tank.

The Makita DUC101 is a battery mini saw and on less than 50% discharge it used about 50 ml of oil which as previously stated works out very expensive.
