Update on the car thing. Tom's insurer reckon that the claim will go nowhere and they aren't likely to settle. Apparently 'your word agin theirs' means that nowt will happen! Unless there is a camera available and, apparently, Highways don't like revealing camera footage, it will be a case of the Asian chap saying that Tom drove into him and his wife will confirm!

I just told Tom to leave the battle scars there and get the suspension/wheel checked and suck it up....

We have just been through that and the other party hired no win no fee solicitors, after the horse had bolted I fitted a cheap nextbase camera to her written-off-bought-back car. The claim against her failed because the opposite side didn't pay the court fee.

Good Morning

Not sure if we had a bit more overnight rain or not. Pretty moist out there.

Have a good one.

Morning all,

No shorts for me today. Probably got to use 880 with 48 inch bar of all things. Taking down a very leaning ash growing out of the side of a gulley. Trunk starts nearly horizontal then curves up. Can only reach the horizontal bit and only from one side. Ratchet straps round trunk just above cut level and tirfor winch to stop it coming sideways at me. And plenty of fluids!

I know you know your stuff, but ash like to barber chair so as well as the straps maybe a bore and release? Your call of course..

Morning, Maybe sounds a cool cut and jump job.  Pictures would be good.  I find these type of trees have a high chance to pull the roots plates up as the momentum picks up, so keep that power on and hold your ground, at full stretch obviously 😂😎

I wanted to create a slight step underneath to help the trunk move away, same effect as humbolt cut, but even just a little way in the 660 with 36 inch bar got trapped, mea culpa no doubt. I already had two 500kg ratchet straps round the trunk, and a heavy duty strap around it, attahced to tirfor winch with some tension to stop it coming sideways at me. Stood above it, carefully not falling onto saw, used 880 to do back cut, all went well. Farmer's tractor pulled the trunk out of the gulley.

The photos don't really show it that well. I was in the shade most of the time. Two of us got it done in 7 hours, including section some large fallen hors chestnut.
