Jo Beau M300 Tinkering

About to start fettling the new to me M300, any tips from owners re belts and bearing removals before I mess something up would be appreciated. I'm a Haynes manual mechanic rather than natural aptitude and available detail seems thin on the ground.

I've got an M500, ended up cutting the bearings off with a grinder as I couldn't get in behind to pull and one had broken up anyway. I don't know if you have the same belt cover as me but I would have mounted the right hand bearing so the grease nipple was easier to get to if I did it again, but I'm not taking it all apart to change that.

 

Pretty sure belt pulley was taperlock so take the screws out and insert one into the spare hole to split. If you Google there are plenty of instructions and videos on taperlock.

 

Other than that it's all pretty basic mechanics so I don't think you can go far wrong. Post a pic if you get stuck.

I've had two M300s since 2012 and never felt the need to 'fettle'!  What do you want to do?

We  have m300 , it spends all its life outside , never had any problems with belts or bearings  just a bit of grease  to the bearing  as long as the blades are sharp it will give you very little problems  ,they are well made not over complicated  loads of different lads have used ours who  normally wreck an iron ball ,as yet none have broke it , good little machines

The grease nipple on tube that sticks through the belt housing was broken at the thread in the bearing so I need to get the bearing off to try and extract the thread then replace the tube and grease nipple. Think mine's a 2011.

 

Thanks for all the responses. It does exactly what I need and I want to look after it so trying to make sure everything's as it should be to maintain in properly.

I had that grease nipple extension breakage last year so that seems to be a design issue.  A local garden machinery company drilled out for me but didn't have to dismantle the machine to do it!

 

I think the replacement nipple + tube was £12.99!

I'd have thought that would come out with a stud extractor? Doesn't have much to tighten up against and shouldn't be rusty.

Or a file tang can often work on a grease fitting.
