No but know a person who does some they use  a single ring kiln  (8ft I think). I  helped out a few times  seems alot of manaul work  "hand ballling" loading logs and unloading the kiln and dusty bagging up.

Think it could be made more efficent by be mechanizing abit?

Trommel or some such for screening rather than manual  sieving the  fines & a branch logger straight into kiln  maybe etc?

NCF do the paper bags.

British Barbecue Charcoal - Perryhill Orchards

Theres acres of overstood hazel coppice about that could be make into charcoal  but maybe the  sums don't add up to make if worth while?

I used to make charcoal using an Exeter retort kiln. For me it is was really interesting and I enjoyed it but I could never make it even slightly financially viable. If you were a country park/National Trust property with a somewhat captive audience then maybe.
