Spark arrester glowing red hot?

Thanks. There's already a bypass hole in the cat mounting plate as it happens, but I don't really want to mess with the cat or retuning yet. Happy to just have the saw working, probably without a spark arrestor screen!

Pair of pliers and a small hook to remove thick wire ball from a chinese top handle exhaust, that wasnt catalyst wire but it wanted gone all the same.

Worth noting, in theory it is possible for the engine to suck loose debris from the exhaust back into the cylinder, although even less likely if it's t'side of a catalyst. Use an air line or what every you have to blow out swarf or grinding dust from exhaust. Better safe than sorry.

Just bin the spark arrester or drill it out.  I've adapted, fixed, or changed a few exhausts and the engines run fine afterwards.  If you are worried about the engine running differently, check the tuning.

Agree, it should be absolutely fine without the spark arrester, I'd be very surprised if there was any re-tuning required.

If it is running well and is burning all of the unburnt mix in the muffler then why would you want to breathe in fumes by changing things ?

I thought it running so hot might be bad for it, better and cooler if it can breathe a bit? Though I must say the exhaust is a lot cleaner than my old saw.

My thoughts are if your spark arrestor is getting carboned up it will glow and run hot . you can either remove and clean it or just remove it completely as it is only there to meet the criteria of dry area cutting where as when did you see a dry day in England's fine woods ?
