Excavator and tree shear combo

A simple question I'm wondering if a few of you could help me out with based on your knowledge and experience;

If I had a small 360 excavotor that was light enough to tow behind a 4x4 with 3500kg towing capacity - I assume this would be too small of a machine to be of any use with a excavator mounted tree shear?

Is there any basic chart that helps the ignorant like me to match up excavator size with capability?!

It’s hydraulic pressure that’s key.  2.7 tonner will do 5-6” hardwood and at a push 8” softwood.  With exceptions.  

  Do you want to just shear, do you want a felling head with removable blade, full fixed rotator with blade?

Tmk 200 will work on a 2.7 ton machine and can still be towed behind a motor. Just need to know the limitations

As big as that?? What head would you recommend and what pressure required?

I had the Nissula felling head.  Hardwood like Beech and Holly I’d say 5” max, softwood and saplings like Lime and Ash it would do the 6”.

  Conifer limbs that were say 8” x 4” it would cut easily.

  I’ve heard good reports about JAK shears, Jas P Wilson is the dealer.

  I’ve never used the TMK, I think they can punch above their weight.

  I like the grapple with removable blade as acts as a timber grab too.

I really like my tree shear, but..........

It is finding the right material to cut and that is within reach of the digger.

Having some form of rota makes life so much easier,  but they are very expensive and heavy which greatly reduces the amount you can lift
