Bark/slice identification if possible?

Hello there folks,

 

This is my first post, and I'm sure it should be an easy one for you experienced guys!? I've put in about 8h over a few days trying to identify this cutting through its bark and the cross section of its rings pores, but I'm not totally satisfied with my findings! I would really appreciate some experienced knowledge, any help would be gratefully received.

Getting confusing now.  I see ash and oak.  Is it possible there are two species here?

Oak .....more difficult as it is dead / old , not fresh cut .....but inner bark and medullary rays give it away....

It's the same slice dumper, just different lighting with the pictures, the bark says oak to me, but I'm only a Googler, I'm heading back to the job on Saturday so I'll get some full image's, and hopefully cut myself some more pieces.

This closes up image is from the other slice I cut the week before, and the 2 together, they were from cut from different field stacks, so maybe different species??

Yeah I am confident some are oak and some ash.  The logs with a rotten area around the edge only are oak.  Sapwood rots quickly; heartwood very slowly.

 

 The slice just below your feet in the first batch of photos is ash, no differentiation between heartwood and sapwood.  Also no medullary rays visible.
