Once said that to a young Scot girl I was having a bit of fun with, then remembered her dad died in the alpha piper disaster…still cringe to this day when I hear that phrase!

glad you didn’t come off worse anyhow

I was down the Mucky Duck once (2000), bit pissed, and going on about the Hanse Cronje match fixing scandal.

’Typical bloody South African’ I said ‘corrupt as the day is long’

Who was I talking to? Honest to God it was Bruce Grobbelar!

He is one scary dude by the way.

He of the wobbly legs.  One of my LFC favourites when I was a kid - his kids went to the school next to ours and we used to see him picking them up.  Was awestruck at that age.

I guess two years as a late teenager fighting in the Rhodesian bush war cements your character a bit though.

I don't think of South Africans as corrupt as much as I think of them as scary. He'd have shit you up all the same if you'd complimented him on his car, wife and dog.

He's Rhodesian/Zimbabwean though mind...

I'm generalising. Is there a big difference with borders? I just think of any white man in the southern quarter of the African continent as being like the characters in Blood Diamond.
