Just been working out our consumption.  25KW boiler stove with 15 radiators.  Wife does not like the cold so we are using a 2 cu metre or 72 cu ft box of loose stacked dry Ash which I think would weigh about 750 kg or 3/4 ton a week.  Stove is on all day and most of the night.

We go through a similar amount. We have a 11kw Esse in the kitchen so it does all the hotwater, 1 radiator and the cooking and obviously heats the kitchen plus a 10kw in the living room. Bother are generally on from 07:00-22:00 or later if we're up more.

It averaged £0.215 on the bill for October, but it might be a bit lower this month. We aren't on a great tariff as we bought our house just as everything kicked off in Ukraine with the subsequent energy crisis.

The south of Sweden doesn't have much hydro and is more reliant on gas and to a lesser extent nuclear.

Either way, it's probably one of the cheapest countries for electricity right now. Or least expensive, depending on which way you look at it!

I thought Sweden imported a lot of Electricity from the north of Norway?

Thanks for that  Big J,

She was under anaesthetic for over an hour and it seems to be lingering in her brain leaving her feeling too dizzy to drive, even though the op was some time ago.  Anyone else know someone who has been affected in a similar way?

Last time my wife had a fairly minor procedure, the consultant said tell work you need 4 weeks off. She was thinking it was minor and should be back quicker than that, but in truth the effects of anaesthetic lasted and she needed the full time.

I think it's easy to underestimate how long it takes to really recover from these things and then be disappointed, ideally you should go to Bath or Brighton for a few months to relax.

I think it goes both ways in the North. We're a fairly long way from Norway here in the South.

From what I've read and been told from guys off-shore is the infrastructure is far better in Sweden so Electricity generated in the North of Norway is not readily available in the South of Norway, so the Electricity actually transfers over to Northern Sweden and down to Southern Sweden then back to Southern Norway. Hence why the North of Norway has enjoyed continual cheap Electricity Prices but the South has been exposed to the highly fluctuating prices on the open market.

Residents of southwestern Norway had to brace for their highest electricity rates ever on Thursday, while their fellow Norwegians in the central and northern regions of the country...

The article above makes more of an emphasis on the lack of rain in the South of Norway but does highlight the fact its near on impossible to transport the electricity south due to the current infrastructure.

The article below highlights what Im refering to though.

Energy in north Norway is considerably cheaper than in the south, where price records have been broken throughout the summer. Sweden imports cheap energy from north Norway into north Sweden before moving it south and exporting it to south Norway.

The electricity prices have gone back up again, so now resolved to using the stove more again. One basket lasts us one day of constant burning and it's 17 baskets to the cube. I anticipate at this rate I'll burn about 7 cube up to the end of March, which is fortunate, as I only have 9 cube for this winter!

We've got minus 18 on our long range forecast though, so I suspect the fire will be fairly well cranked for that.
