I don't think there's a massive difference between semi and synthetic. I'd choose fd over fb anyway plus it has higher detergency so cleaner engine.

If you decide to buy the 'neat' 4-stroke Stihl motoplus4 or Aspen 4, then at least you have options to dispense it for use in both 2 or 4 stroke machinery- however use a decent 2-stroke synthetic oil with your mix, such as the Green Stihl HP (not the ultra) oil, as this is the oil Stihl automatically add to their pre-mix 2-stroke fuel, as it has a stabiliser added, whereas the cheap Red version or the more expensive Ultra version doesn't

How long do you reckon a mix of aspen 4 and hp super would last? 2 to 5 years?

According to stihl, the motomix and motoplus4 has a shelf life 'up to' 5 years. Obviously that depends on storage condition. I cannot recall how long the stabiliser in the green hp oil stabilises the mix for....I think its 2years. That is on the assumption you are mixing it with pump fuel. As motomix has hp oil added as standard, then when hp oil is mixed with motoplus4 it should be same shelf life as motomix, which is up to 5 years.....why anyone would buy a fuel they aren't going to use in its entirety for 5 years is beyond me though.

Why do you say not to use the ultra with the aspen 4 in your previous post and to use super instead? Do you think super is a better oil?

Because that's what Stihl do. They don't use ultra in their pre mixed motomix, so I have no reason to recommended an alternative oil if they don't.

They seem to know their onions

Personally I use ultra hp with pump fuel for my own use, but that's just me.

I thought motomix does use ultra: "MotoMix uses STIHL HP ultra-premium oil for exceptional engine lubrication and extreme cleanliness. It’s fully synthetic and biodegradable for optimal performance and long service life. MotoMix is user- and engine-friendly thanks to fewer emissions (free from ethanol; almost no olefins and aromatic compounds)."

Without a doubt yes ultra is in the motomix 100%. I was wondering why "pleasant" was recommending stihl hp super in the post. I personally think the super is a better oil and I've been looking for opinions to support that or not. That's all. Thanks for the info. 👍🏻

Yes, sorry. My mistake I got myself confused...it is ultra in the motomix.

.....others however have said the super HP is actually a higher specced oil.

Yea I've gone to great trouble to find this out myself.. hp ultra is rated jaso fb that's ISO L EGB whereas hp super is Jaso fd ISO L EGD a higher rated oil.. I've emailed stihl in England germany and the US about this, they spout out that hp ultra is the best but I don't believe it at all, how can a fb rated oil (ultra) be better than than a fd rated (super)  ISO L EGD oil. Its only for emissions I'm convinced .. I'd like to hear more on this but I think hp super is the best oil and ultra (pond water) is being pushed for emissions and not for the life of the saw at all.

There have been more than a few 'which oil is the best' topics over the years.

I wouldn't get hung up on it tbh. If you're using a semi synthetic be it Stihl, Husqvarna or another reputable brand then I don't think you can go wrong.

Just mix it as per the instructions and more importantly don't have it sitting about for more than about a month.
