Not specifically, but it's madness not to plan a contingency of a few extra grand a year, imo.

No, but a secure plan put in place 10 or 15 years ago simply isn't enough for some people.  Hopefully,  there's more people like you, that will reject any government assistance,  leaving a bit more for those that need the help

I don't agree with the 'poor pensioners' agenda. They have had their entire working lives to prepare for their retirement. If they have failed to prepare, they should expect for their twilight years to be a bit of a struggle. I'm very much a fan of everyone taking responsibility for themselves.

Fair comment, but 46 years ago whilst swanning it up in Singers and Honkers it wasn't exactly high on my agenda !

Yes, I agree, you've got me there. I suppose there is a point at which even the best contingency plan is going to be stretched to breaking point.

I'll be honest, I didn't know anything was on offer. I certainly think it shouldn't be offered to people who simply don't need it.

And in your retirement, maybe you will regret it. I don't see why government assistance should be offered for your lack of planning.

The above isnt a personal 'dig', by the way. I was daft with money in my younger days too, but am happy to take responsibility for myself and my family.

Agree with you there. Means testing. But I think it will be blanket offer. Easier and quicker to get out. I don't think anything is out yet, but there will some government help coming. There has to be, for some

I'm aware of that. I agree it must be tough, and a difficult position in which to find oneself.

I'm going to find it very difficult to defend my opinion on such matters without upsetting someone, so I think I'll quit whilst I'm ahead (or only slightly behind).

We all have our own opinions on the "energy situation ".On the whole I'm happy with my lot. As far as income/outgoings are concerned, I budget  accordingly and eat and drink well. I will have to draw the belt in though and that is my responsibility.

I think, perhaps that I'm reasonably sensible in my approach and budgeting.

My worries here have gone from "Oh dear" to "slightly miffed"

Has to be blanket, how else do you decide who gets it without an indepth investigation into each case?

an example is the £400 credit to the council tax bill that our neighbours in a 3 bedroom house got but we missed out on in our 4 bedroom house. Pretty confident their income is significantly higher than mine

Never regretted one moment on my life at sea or on ships.
