Hybrid black poplar was exactly what I was thinking when doing some research. These are not common here in Ireland at all. Is the wood from these good for anything?

Poplar timber is indeed good timber for indoor projects.  Not very hard, so maybe better for cupboard doors (or carcass) and mirror frames, and many other craft or furniture items.

👍haven’t used poplar yet. Going to be milling some slabs some time over winter.
