Thats how we used to pronounce it.

 

Shouldn't the groundie know anyway either from running out of fuel noises, or just seeing you lowering it. If he's too busy feeding the chipper I just wave my arms around till he notices my saw is sitting on the deck.

 

As for a name your'e right that its too much of a mouthfull, and that the younguns don't know 020, there is a sign for fuel up with various thumbs and fingers in a kind of teapot tipping motion.

in an ideal world rupe yes they should, they should have the 046 ready 2 cuts before you send the smaller one down, they should also know not to fill the blower to the brim at 3pm when you only have a fifth of a combi can left and 2 hours of logging to do. lol

my first groundie 12 years ago worked with me for the first time last week, he had never seen the newer caps as it has been about 8 years since he last did tree work. i gave him the talk about not putting too much oil in blah blah blah. he never once got it wrong, i didnt need the blower as he tidied so well with a rake and everytime i came down out the big hedge he topped up my saw. Best lad i have ever had, i could just switch off, when i went to the rd side of the hedge he was there and when i went to the house side he was at the front door giving me levels. worth his weight in gold.

sure is, he is a full time painter and decorator now with his own business, but a good worker is a good worker. he is quiet just now and waiting for his wife to have their first kid, so he is helping me out here and there. as you sy tony, priceless. or a tenner an hour lol

I did use one of those Husq338 saws for a bit (trying to rebel from the 020 deathgrip)

 

Workmates ripped the micky out of me, mainly because the saw didn't sound butch enough. They christened the thing Luxy due to a) Husqvana being owned by electrolux at the time and B) it sounding like a kitchen appliance.

 

The major drawback there was that if you shouted down to you groundie to stop chipping and fuel "Luxy" up, you ran the risk of seeing them disappearing off in the 4x4 to refuel that instead.
