the nissan navara d40 cab can be raised 40mm without any problems with looms, brake lines, steeing columns etc. Any more than this and you're opening a whole tin of worms! don't know if this will give you sufficient clearance for you?:confused1:

i'm going to be doing it to my truck next weekend so i'll put up some before and after pics for you!

Those of you who are interested, what sort of pickup have you got at the moment? Make, Model, Year/MK and cab type?

Thanks Again

Daniel

Dan,

Got a 2004 L200 Double Cab. The shorter butt means the wheelarches don't have space in front of them anyway. I board up the butt for small chipping jobs. If you can make my butt tip (!) for roughly a grand with NO visual implications put me in the order book. Oh, and the fuel filler aint in the butt either! Hehe!

No need to PM me, just put the prices up on here, I'm sure everyone will be interested.

Mines a 95 Chevy 1500 CK extended cab. It's the watertight lockers that'd really sell it to me, better than stuff all sloshing around. I was thinking if you had the tray deck raised up to clear the wheels you could have some sizable storage space running across the back under the tray?

I like neat and organised, I've got everything sorted into fish boxes in the van at the moment, bit OCDC like that:lol: Put the HIAB on rear mounted as an option just in case I can't afford it:blushing: It'd be nice to lift a tonne but no more, and only from close by.

I know full box conversions for these trucks are quite common in the states, so guess its pretty straight forward. Filler neck is in the tub as you can see, and anoyingly set into the step side.

Thanks for all your responses so far Guys.

BigRedDog, I've now stumbled across GM's chassis drawings. I'll see what size toolboxes we can get on, although an 8ft body looks like you'll have a fair bit of overhang with COG of the load behind the rear wheels based on an evenly distributed load, which I doubt you'd want with a crane on there too! First impression would suggest a platform length closer to 6ft, how does this compare to what you already have? I will do some calc's tomorrow.

I'd would have liked to have thought we could get a continuous toolbox running over the wheels, but the subframe looks quite low in relation to wheel height, so you'd end up with a tall crane subframe and as a result more weight and high body . I'll price with alloy treadplate toolbox in front of and behind the rear wheels. Is this ok?

Also I'll get prices for an electric crane to be fitted as an option, unless you'd prefere something else although I would say electric would probably be the most sensible. Would you like this fitted centrally or in a corner?

If you have any photo's of similar trucks I'd be more then happy to quote to match that. This is a little more difficult then our standard build as we're used to working with chassis cabs as opposed to pickups but this is all able to be done.

  • 1 year later...

i think you have come across a real gap in the market as far as i can see! i have a 2000 reg double cab hilux and would defo be interestd if someone could make it a tipper for around a thousand, no more shoveling chip and logs! but as everyone has said, keeping the price low is a bigg part of weather people will go for it. hope you make it to the prototype stage, would love to see it!!

i had my 110 high cap L/rover made into a tipper with original body.. worked a treat.. and also did dodge ram 2500 club cab before that.. both of them i sold with good profit... the land rover flew away.. phone never stopped ringing till months after.. people loved the fact it was still original and unless you knew it woulda been hard to tell it was a tipper..
