What would it do to a 500i? I find it a ripper the way it is, would it become heavier on fuel if I ported it? I'd be afraid of warranty at the moment or anytime because of the cost.. if anything went wrong after. Cheers.

Leave it as it is if happy with it. I would certainly port an older saw with no warranty and it's bound to use more fuel I should imagine. Never had one done personally.

Depends what you want out it really, bigger bar, faster cut speed etc.

If a dealer knows it’s ported it’ll void the warranty. Depends on the dealer and what’s the issue I suppose.

If it’s something you’re uncertain of then probably best to wait. I’ve ported plenty of brand new saws straight out the box but it’s preference. Once you run a ported saw most people stick with them.

I’ll ask the last guy I did a 500 for what the fuels like.

I'd be interested to know the gains you got from the 500.

 

It feels like a ported saw out the box, and I definitely wouldn't want it any louder than stock

Same here she is unbelievable stock,  I feel no need to. I was only wondering would it be much better, the guys I know who fitted a bark box noticed not much difference, and reckoned it was hardly worth the cost of the bark box.

Very similar to motorcycles the smaller ones are always looking for extra power but the 600cc upwards does the business.

I thought that about my 2511 but it's 4 years old now so I'm tempted to get it fiddled with.

 

The bark box on the 500i just makes it anti social. A mate has one and I personally wouldn't bother for whatever gains are to be had.

The gains aren't worth the cost, little to nothing from what I've heard only noise. Personally they are rippers out of the box imo..

The mufflers depend on what’s done inside the saw when porting. The more you open it up the more can be done because it can process more fuel.

My guy got back to me. It uses more fuel for sure.

The 500i is an awesome saw. Ported it’s just an animal. So as I said it depends what you want. Next one I do I’ll do a comparison vid stock vs ported.
