Wood chipper PTO

Hi I have a Farmi CH260 

I have bought this machine second hand and have a few questions about running woodchippers/pto woodchippers

 

1. Do new blades make a big difference as the blades that are in it seem to have a lot of chips/damage on the blade

 

2. What speed do people run the pto at as I've watched videos of these chippers online and my one does not chip the branches anywhere near as fast really slow.

 

3.The top roller keeps getting branches twigs  wrapped around it is this a common occurrence happens when chipping leylandia,beach hedging anything flexible

 

4. Which is better is it best to have the knife as close to the anvil as possible or further back ?

 

I have attached a few photos to show blade condition and chip size that took about 25/30mins for that much

Any help would be appreciated

Do you have the manual?

 

Its available online and will answer all your questions.

 

Your blades need a sharpen

 

When they are sharp move both counter knives to within 1 mm of the blades.

 

You can alter the infeed speed using a knob on the valve block.

 

CH260s and pretty much all Farmi chippers are designed to turn clean trunks into chip for further sale. They are not really or ideal for chipping brush.

1) Blades should always be kept sharp - even if it does not seem to make a difference to the speed of chipping it is important because it reduces stress on everything else. Imagine trying to fell a tree with a blunt axe - your joints take more of a hammering.

 

2) Check the manual. PTO speed is likely top be 540 or 1,000 I would expect.

 

3) Most chippers I have used will get small whippy shoots around the top roller  just reverse it every so often to get them off.

 

4) Consult the manual. All the chippers I have owned need the gap between the blade and anvil to be pretty tight; I can't imagine there would be any reason for any chipper to need a big gap.

I haven't got the manual I will search for it online now

I have a feeling the top orbital motor is ****************ered as it likes stopping even when no material is wrapped around

Atm the chipper won't chip anything over 2" round 

I tried adjusting the feed rollers alright from the valve block

That's good cheers thanks for the help I must get new blades and anvil and start from scratch. I got a quote from samurai chipper blades a Lithuanian company but can't find any reviews online

You dont or shouldnt need new anvils. Open it up tomorrow, all you need are two 19mm spanners and check your anvils. They have a hell of alot of travel.
