Had this Holly sawlog in the yard for some time; it had got buried at the bottom of a pile I’ve finally worked through but when I put it on the mill and took off the 1st slice I was glad it got left as long as it did…I’ve never seen Holly spalt like that before, pleasantly surprised!IMG_0877.jpgIMG_0878.jpgIMG_0879.jpgIMG_0880.jpgIMG_0881.jpg

You've caught that in the nick of time Mark; development from spalting to outright rotten is quick I've noticed.  But that may apply to all species, not just holly - I don't know

Hi Jon yeah it does apply to all timbers but some last longer than others that Holly had been in the yard for at least 4 yrs maybe more 6/7 maybe so yeah lucky with it .

That's lovely. Herself has taken to turning bowls, and we got lucky with some holly that was at a lovely stage of decomposition - this is it before finishing: it actually sanded very well1514099462_hollybowl1.4.thumb.jpg.98688bb58bcfdc475d1ce6239e1c5872.jpg
