Makita 18v top handle saw question.

Mine is the rear handle too and yes it does run for about as long as a tankfull of fuel in a petrol saw. That is a good comparison I hadn't thought of before.

The amount of noise difference would sway it for me, so much quieter. Not always an issue but time of day, weekends and proximity to houses etc can make the noise of a petrol saw a problem.

Is this with the 1/4 inch chain? Or 3/8?  The 1/4 would make lovely pleacher, pruning cuts.

Which battery are you using? the 6amp spins it faster apart from longer run time they also do some off board connection for some items know the 24 volt drill had that so battery could be on belt etc cable connected by a plate

There was a special offer, bought the 36v saw with two 6Ah batteries and got two 5Ah batteries free. Then I bought the bare 18v saw as so cheap.

I swap them around, haven't really noticed faster cutting on the 6Ah.

I also put 1/4 pitch bar on the small saw, much smoother for small cuts say around an inch, usually use the bigger say for dismantles so suits the 3/8 it came with.

Good that the  6.0 Ah is also the same weight and size as  the 3.0 4.0 5.0

What 1/4 bar and chain did you get? and a new sprocket?

spin speed increases with battery size! ive drill.Impact's going from 3 to 5 there is a change in no load speed.

 

Project Farm on Poo tube did a test on cordless tools and batteries and increased speeds.

Interesting one was the recips cut less when went to the huge batteries some are making.

cutting increased as went upto 6amp but when larger was too fast so blade just made heat and cut less as teeth can't find stuff to cut

Panther 8" bar from@RobD at chainsawbars, yes and sprocket which is on his website but tricky to find.

Some have said the Panther bars don't last but it's not heavy cutting and has been fine. Its the same mount as Echo2511 so you can fit a MS150 bar with a little jiggery I believe as people seem to do that with the Echo, there is a trick with chain length either one more or less than the Stihl.

Thinking about it you can possibly get a sprocket at L&S because there is a 1/4" pitch option direct from Makita.

Only other thing I would add is don't buy the Makita chains because they are safety chains with bumper links, can't cut on the tip or bore so a right pain.

There is definitely a carving bar option, as I bought this version in orange from shavey.
