The best way of cutting prussiks?

Hi, just got all my own kit and was wondering what was the best way of cutting my prussiks up, can any1 help or send me a link to a web page please.Thanks

ideally you would want to cut them with a bit of equipment called a hotknife. but there expensive, so if not that then a sharp knife and a lighter to melt the new end is how i do it.

Cutting up for what? Sharp knife?

 

I see now! If you haven't got a got knife use a blow torch and a large pair of scissors, cuts and seals the ends.

If money is no object. Buy a hot knife. About £100 on Honey Bros website I think. If not, really sharp knife to cut and use a lighter to seal. Hope this helps.

yep same as the others, plumbers blow torch an old blade almost red hot cuts and seals works a treat!

I like to wrap a section in insulating tape, and cut through that with a sharp knife, then heat it. Also worth remembering that some of the more modern heat resistant fibres don't melt, they just charr and so you will need to tape things like OP and Bailout.

Insulation tape and a normal knife!

 

The hot knife/heat seal method is fine for short cordage but can keep the milk in a longer line. Insulation tape doesn't grab the core so it all just falls off the end.

thats similar to what i use and adequate and good for occasional use

at work we have the proper expensive one like honeys sell

but not justifiable for occasional uses imo

I can help you out with stuff like that mate, I am assuming you're the same Deni that did a day for me last year, just saw your other thread. I will bear you in mind if I need an extra pair of hands mate, things a bit quiet just now though. Insulation tape and a nice sharp blade....i often use the stihl billhook which is usually kept razor sharp. Really clean cut that way.
