Stihl Diagnostic Software

Hi

Would any members here happen to hold a recent copy of said software?

I’m hitting a roadblock obtaining a copy as one must be an authorised Stihl agent to download it from their portal.

Slightly annoying as they’ll sell you the diag. hardware but keep hold of the SW - whatever happened to “right to repair” Messrs Stihl!? 😂

All assistance appreciated. TIA

I'm  amazed no one has hacked it yet, what inputs does it use? Presumably the information stored is the saw's details and history and then carb settings at different rev ranges.

I believe there's no way unless you're an authorised dealer as it's an online system, so you log in every time you use it.

Are you absolutely sure it’s online?

I’ve been told it’s a downloadable program. You can run and install it on a PC laptop, and don’t have be connected to the internet to use it. Just need to have a dealer login to get it.

Are you really sure it’s online for operation?

Reading this guide suggests you just need a dealer login for the initial install (and updates):

Cant talk about Stihl but believe it is dealers only and it is probably like the Husqvarna CST system where you can only get access being a dealer using their online access.

The manufacturers shouldn't sell the interfaces if you can't get the software.

TBH, much of the diagnostics can be done with normal methods. The electric stuff is where I really miss the Stihl interface/software but that's life, move on.

Received the diagnostic kit today and the username and password is included in the kit, on an official Stihl label. So it's not (or no longer is) just a dealer only login to download. However it's a pretty big setup .exe file, around 950 MB or so.

The version which downloaded was version: 3.16.1 - Build: 3. Following install the program pulled down another database update. It looks like the program periodically checks for database updates. This doesn't require any logins etc.

I've attached the installation instructions, in case anyone wants to see.
