Tree replace.

After some extra thought. Customer has got a large conifer hedge which I trimmed last week its 16foot high it is a major screen from housing estate (3 store properties)  at the back of his place. His side is north facing so not much growth but the other side grows like hell its over garage block and driveways/parking area which I have had to cut back to boundary which has not left much green growth.

So he wants to plant in front of hedge not right up against but about 20foot away some other trees not as a hedge but placed in garden to take over from hedge in the future. Needs to be evergreen and fast growing(not conifer before anyone pipes up) was thinking Photinia anyone seen these as largish trees

Red Robin as a maiden tree is magnificent but won't be at all good if allowed to grow significantly before being cut in order to thicken; the lollipop regrowth goes in all directions and is hideous.

Non-conifer fast growing evergreen... laurel (cherry or Portuguese or bay), privet, griselinia.  personally I'd prefer privet from those; fast growing all right, regrowth is predictable, it will take a hammering, if cut at the right time flowers well and is very attractive to pollinators - actually looks good in flower too I reckon.

Thinking a little more laterally some research should throw up some Rhododendron that would do the job (not ponticum though!)

Is holly too slow growing/

I'm sure there are other possibilities

Good luck

Griselinia will it grow as a tree or is it just best as hedge.

Its got to be quick growing.

Grows as a tree. Great as a hedge too.

Will grow pretty big over time but does well with good reduction. Shoots back pretty quick.
