I had to clear this last week, almost no roots on the North and Eastern side and just one large root on the south western side that snapped when it went over, so when we had some strong North Easterly's it gave up.

I was surprised really as there was hardly any change in the crown, compared to other trees i know that have had Meripilus for years with a lot of crown dieback and their still standing.[ATTACH]176909[/ATTACH][ATTACH]176910[/ATTACH]

A few more pictures,

I had to take another tree down for the crane to be able to swing round and drop the timber where the customer wanted it stacked. The crane company couldn't get there untill mid week so I spent the rest of that day removing all of the material down to about 4" that would go through a chipper, so all the lifts with the crane were straight forward and stuff that was staying on site for firewood for the house owner.

I don't actually know if there is two identified different species of Meripilus.

 

But I have found that of the two described forms from JFL's monologue (that I have noted in the field) both bruise on the pore surface.

 

It has to be said that I've also come across Meripilus that do not bruise.
