:thumbup1: i love it sorry but but life can be harsh i worked for a very small company on my college placement and i got 25pd and i had to walk to get the train.

But did you have to use your own saw, PPE and fuel, as well as having them use your fuel too? IMO £40 for college placement isn't bad, but factor in that lot and it looks like a mickey-take. Your travel expenses aren't your employer's concern though. :001_smile:

any studennt on a work playment will have to provide there on ppe thats standard. I also went to college in 1999. I just got on with dragging and chipping as i was happy to be working. I do think it is unfair that this guy has to provide his own saw/fuel but its getting him a start in the indurstry.

i started on 20 quid a day a year ago, now im on 55 a day for groundwork and 75 for climbing, and ive only got 30 31 38 and 1 years experience, it will come you just have to be patient, enjoy learning from the older guys who know their stuff, you will learn a lot at work that you cant learn at college.

hiya mate, i understand your consern with the money issue, but work experince is what it is, work experince! just learn as much as you can at the time your there, you can learn alot from the old hands. when you finish college then its about earning money. if you prove yourself as worker he may even take you on after your course. I think he should give you fuel&oil tho, thats a bit tight. hope this helps and sorry if it sounds harsh.

hi guys I'm doing the ND in arbor and part of my course i have to do 240HR of work experience, i have already got my cs30 and 31 so i got a upper hand on some of the others on my course but i got a work placement and he is only paying me £40 a day but i use my own saw and chain oil and petrol and costs me about £15 to get there and back every time i go. does anyone think this is ok or does anyone think i should be getting more???

well paid @ that £40 good for a starter ,using your own saw will teach you to respect & look after kit :thumbup1:

When I started out I was given a Husky 444 that was shot to bits, knackered by the company. I rebuilt it, maintained it, until I could afford a saw of my own. I appreciated the learning curve, and that saw never seemed to leave my hands. I think these days some seem to take kit for granted, throw it about and generally have no respect for company equipment.

when in was on my work experience, i wasnt worried about the money at all, just wether i was going to do anything extremly wrong, like kill a client and discovering the body under the brash pile at the near end of the day. i to got £40 a day, but i was learning and i paid money to go to college to learn, so whats to complain about:011:. Also because i never complained nor killed anybody, i got further work after college.
