Rainfall varies alot  and  wind.

Average is around 1400mm here North Wales but last few yrs being wetter than average.

Image result for rainfall annual averages map uk

I tried doing beech logs in a  similar way, Made circles of sheep netting ontop of pallets  open sides with a tarp on top and it started rotting.

I reckon germans must have different climate for there Holz Hausen to work.

Yep, I'm in the same dark blue zone up the west coast, I do similar to you except I got heavy tarps made 560gsm   8 x 1.6m so I stack 5 /6 feet high on pallets in line and cover with the tarp which I support every  pallet / eyelet with short bit of scaffold to give a good foot overhang....Birch gets down to 14% ish in a season, Beech etc takes longer... I've never had any rot but I do have some shelter from trees

I can see that this wouldn't work up here 3 IBC's high, cheers.

I've filled hundred of IBC tote cages with birch mixed in with hardwood and once a crate of birch only. It does rot easy but all it needs is the wind which acts like a fan or the hand dryer in the public washroom. wood needs wind and low moisture content in the air to dry, not just sun and heat. I'll post a video of my IBC totes breakdown next week.
