Hi guys,

Have a question for the wee chipper clan.

 

I have a requirement to purchase a chipper, max size I intend of 4inch. However an opportunity has arisen where I can purchase a cs100 for approx 2800€ or Pto driven BX42type for approx 2500€.

 

I only have a small ford 4100 tractor and am trying to figure out if the cs100 would offer better performance than the other on offer and in terms of reliability are they that much easier to operate/maintain.

 

It's not for professional use, simply for around the farm and forestry etc. Are small chippers that handy? For practicality, would the pto driven one be more useful?

Hi Coin, I have an old GMR100 (Fore runner to the CS100) that is petrol driven. Greenmech used to supply a kit so it could be attached to a tractor 3 point linkage but still being driven by it's own petrol engine. Now i dunno if they supply this kit for the newer CS100 but if they did you could have the best of both worlds in that it could be tractor mounted or used in the conventional fashion and carried about in a van, trailer or pickup truck. Either way someone handy at fabrication cud weld up a 3 point linkage kit i reckon.

Buy the CS100 and put an old fashioned tray/box on your rear linkage. Carry the CS and all your tools in that and you got extra flexibility around the farm! Best solution going!

Thanks to all that replied, certainly has given me something to consider. The CS100 is an opportunity that only came about yesterday so has really got me thinking, carrying it probably in the transport box of the tractor.

 

The model I'm looking at is an 18hp v twin vanguard engine with about 50hrs work on it.

 

Would it handle 4inch timber as easy as a pto driven model?just concerned about the hp difference of the tractor and 18hp vanguard?

 

Apologies for so many questions, just want to be best armed with knowledge before I spend money!

Well I cant help bigging up my little Gts 1300 Wee Chipper , its 2 years old now and still on the same blades that i put in 12months ago, it worked its little Cotton Socks off all day on Conifers and Silver Birch ,everything chipped on site and logged up for the Customer,only thing that left the Site was a Cheque

Its still on the same tank of Fuel from yesterday, for the money these machines are the amazing .
