Sam, this may seem obvious (or daft ), but have you actually asked your new boss what he expects you to wear for the first few weeks. He may actually just tell you to wear some work boots , and old trousers and top, something you don't mind getting dirty. It would save you rushing into buying stuff just for the sake of it etc, and you could take your time and shop around a bit. I don't know but its definitely worth a phone call.

In all honesty Harvey I was so pleased to of been warmly welcomed and offered a job I completely forgot to ask so it was not a daft comment you made x I am not starting until after Christmas as I am on call all through the festivities. I will call him tomorrow and that would definitely take the pressure off 😁 bless you

Just drop the gaffa a txt message sammy. Its festive time now and people switch off from work. Simple text saying what ppe you will be required to wear and no need to rush around like a headless Cock bird
