Is milling hard on saws?

As a matter of course, I tend to let it idle for a while, and don't let the saw run out of fuel, if you can't make the cut with a full tank, refuel part way through.

Good point! I know that letting them run out of fuel, especially when hot is bad for them but ensuring that it's fuelled up for the cut isn't something I would have thought about!

As far as running in on a new saw, do you guys run a few tanks through cutting cookies and letting it get hot and rest etc before milling with it?

You will soon find that out as eats through fuel when milling.

That's also another reason for me wanting the 881 is the fuel economy. General feedback from what I have read says it's better on fuel, even when milling

Are you sure about the warranty? Seems odd that it doesn't mention that in the Manual or Stihls warranty guide. It even says on the stihl site that it is designed for the hardest conditions of forestry and saw milling. The product page even says it can be fitted to a saw frame? 

I would not worry about it, how are they to know you are milling?

I would not worry about it, how are they to know you are milling?

I guess it's more down to the fact that if they go out of their way to say you can't do it then it's a guaranteed way to mess up a saw?

my longest run was 11mins with my 090 at about 40"+ in hard Beech.

One tank per board.
