Hi Everyone,  I might need some 4 to 7 foot lengths of knot-free Elm or Wych Elm fairly soon for a medieval crossbow reconstruction but I'm really awful at tree id. I don't mind cutting my own but I'm as likely to take a beech tree as an elm. Anyone cutting elm near Caerphilly any time soon? Or anyone able to give me a foolproof way of identifting elm?

You’d get a 4’-5’ piece from this?
It’s about 7’ x 2” thick.
Any use?
