Surly its the same down your way? doesn't matter if its a 36'' diameter oak stump or a 2'' lilac they want the stumps out down here....

I'm very rarely asked to remove the stump when cutting down a tree - maybe once a year, if that.:)

Minimum business start up stihl 200t and ropes and harness thats it.

Thats how i started and when you have more wedge you get the rest.

All this get a chipper insurance etc you cant afford that right away.

One step at a time and youll get there.

Start small, and get bigger not big and get smaller.

Lots of common sense, hard graft and customer satisfaction required.

I started with a series 1 Landrover, a 262xp . I borrowed a ladder , brush and a rake . I climbed what i could with an old rock climbing kit. In my own time I watched other guys climb and made it up as I went along, self lowering and solving all the problems that arise. I worked f'ing hard. I read books and articles on arb and asked questions. I passed my climb/rescue/saw in tree tickets with no pro training just a practiced with an old hand once. I have been open to new techniques from the start absorbing the best into my work when I can.

It may be frowned upon now to start this way. Mostly by those who are so up their @rses they don't want just any bloke up a tree cos they want to ponce about rather than graft.

I wish you well new starter , health and good luck ,

but stay oof my patch :)

So true most climbers dont want more people starting feel they will loose work which is true.

They started the same way but now they have the gear insurance tickets etc they want everyone else to or they get called a pikey or cowboy.

Me i dont mind some healthy competition.

If you don't have insurance, imo, you are a pikey or cowboy!

The other stuff, to some extent,i agree :icon14:

Well i agree everyone should be insured thats much more important than nptc.

As many pikeys are actually fully qualified they have the money to do the courses and they are insured.

The pikeys have the brand new trucks and chippers but alot do bad work but still get plenty of work
