Oregon bar with Stihl chain

I'm with htb, sharpen it. Blunt chains rub, that creates heat. Some temperature increase is normal, but forcing a blunt chain can make the bar so hot the oil smokes (seen someone do that, couldn't believe he kept going).

I haven't tried it but be very surprised if .063 chain would run in a .058 bar at all.

Bin the chain bar and sprocket.
Get new ones which fit.

I have seen it work after a fashion but the bar rails were well worn and slightly splayed  . Not ideal . Anyway it seems its not the case in this instance .

Absolutely . As I said I have run .058" Stihl chains on Husqvarnas  I preferred them to be honest thought they were a tad harder but that was many years ago and I think things have improved/ moved on now .

Sharp chain might be all thats required .....

Once upon a time I sharpened a Stihl mini picco chain with a file for a 0.325 chain, wouldnt cut a thing, melted paint off the bar etc. If your dumping 1/2 hp into friction things is gonna get hot.
