How much do you charge as a subbie for the use of your own truck?

Hi all, 

 

I am just curious as to how much subcontractors (who perhaps do a couple of days a week for other companies plus their own jobs) charge per day for the use of their truck?

 

FYI I am talking about a VW Crafter tipper, so a reasonably capable unit capacity wise; do you charge a flat rate, fuel included or on top?

 

To start the convo i'll be up front, I charge £60/day, fuel included, but recharge tip off costs with my invoice as this varies. Im based in London. Some people I have chatted to seem to think this is low. I am just interested to see what the consensus is.

Trucks gotta be worth another oner if your brimoing it with chip

£60 is very cheap, and I would think you should be looking at double that. 

 

You need to consider all the cost involved. 

 

Additional fuel 

Wear and tear on the Vehicle. 

Depreciation

Insurance, additional risk as beening used more. 

The risk of points or fines on your licence if you do drive overloaded. 

And do you end up working more hours because you now having to do tip runs. 

 

Why abouts are you based in London.

It depends on your existing day rate in my opinion. If you are a freelance climber with own climbing kit, saw and  decent condition tipper, all in you should be £260-300 in London.

Transit+tow chipper  £150 a day + squirt , Mog+pto chipper £250+ squirt and Trucks £650 a day.

Interesting. I've recently set up on my own (part-time and mainly Garden maintenance work) but I do get asked to do a lot of tree work. As I don't have my own van and chipper I usually pass the work onto lads who I used to work with, but, as I do want to do more tree work myself I was wondering what rates were for man, van and chipper until I get set up properly!

 

I was thinking £220 a day would be reasonable for groundie with thier van and chipper?
