That's OK if you have room to work not easy if at  roadside. 

Scraggs on here has the best I have seen.

Yeah that is pretty much what I was thinking.  Not sure whether to mount the winch or have it loose for flexibility.  And as you say a ground anchor will be necessary for bigger logs.
