Hey guys.

 

The time has come that I need to do some spiking. The tree of choice is a pine which has had a bit of wind damage at the top and the only way to access the top to free the lump of wood left there is to spike it.

personally i would go for a set of light alloy bashli spikes , i have not tried the Geco spikes but can assure you that the light alloy bashlin spikes are as goo as it gets and extreamyl comfortable and will last you a blooby long time

I know people think the carbon fibre ones are the dogs but I really didn't like them. Infact at my last company we all used to avoid having to climb on that pair. The velcro fastening round the ancle is shite IMO.

You are much better off with a good pair of allys.

EEEEEBBAAAAAYYYYYY! I bought mine for £50 from ebay - the old leather style, super comfortable. i find them more comfortable than the new padded velcro ones my boss has.

there are no branches to anchor to, plus if there was, im unsure of the quality of it or the strength t the top, so spikes seem to be the better option, plus its on the edge of a woodland, with persmission from the gamekeeper im allowed to use it. there is no access for a mewp

Got mine from Ebay too, very, very old buckinghams but for £22.50 inc postage was a bargain! Well comfy for most of the day.

horses for courses on the Gecko's... I cannot stand them and have tried the ally and CF. really cannot get away with them.

i did actually read the europe gaff too, with US trees like the redwoods having thick bark, they will have a longer gaff to get through it so the spikes would work more effectively, with most european trees (beech, ash) having thinner bark then there is no need for a long gaff. So there is a shorter one available.

tell you what i have a spare set of bashlins light alloy spikes , £100 and they are yours mate , i wasnt going to sell them but hey whats the point in having two sets of spikes
